Along with the Sage hat were two Sage humidors, The fly lines just keep coming. Hutch Hutchinson at Orvis sent us two floating lines, with the WF 7 F line being an excellent line for sight casting to those stupid corbinas in the flats on the beaches. Also from Orvis it sounds like we will be getting a pair of sun glasses from the Orvis Pasadena Corporate Store. For the film buff we got sets of free tickets coming our way for the Drake Magazine Fly Fishing Film Tour. They will have 2 sets of 3 tickets waiting for you at will call. Short hallies on the bite.

Well I went out to the One Surf Fly location to see the beach conditions after some larger swells / waves came through the week before. Some holes are gone, but new troughs and holes have been made in their place. Actually two of the smaller hole merged into a bigger one. The conditions were just too fishy for me to explore the rest of the beach. I raced back to the car to wader up. The water conditions was a bit churned, and in some spots the along shore current was moving at autobahn speed. Once you found the tail out there were short flatties to be found. The little hallies were not line shy at all. I basically was fishing with the same rod I had used at Catalina at the beginning of the month. It was just the first rod I grabbed out of my trunk, oh well. I was fishing an Orvis Helios 10wt with a 400g integrated line, and a 7' 15# leader. The fly I was using was a jig hook surf whistler from Gary Bulla. I got some short strikes through the various holes. I lost the bigger hallie at my feet. Trout sets are badddddd! The second hallie now has a longer lower lip. When the hallie hit I ripped some lip for sure. This one was not coming unbuttoned like the first one. We the second hallie was a shadow of the first fish. It was a short hallie about 16" / 17". That was when I realized I was supposed to be at my mom's house by then to pick up my kid. I knew there was more to my day than scouting the beach. I left the fish biting with the beach only half scouted and at least a half hour late picking up my kid.

30" Hallibut caught at Huntington Beach.

Well with the big northwest swell that hit last weekend, you would figure fishing would be slow.  water temps droped and the water got a bit churned up.  The good news is that there are lots of fishing hole all along the Huntington coastline.  There are reports of lot of credit card to palm size surf perch in the water.  Some yellowfin croackers in the chuncky size are being caught by some of the fly regulars that hit Huntington State Beach.  Before the storm Vaughn P. was able to get a three spotfin crockers at Huntington State Beach.  The biggest catch of the week was Vaughn's 30" halibut caught on the tried and true olive over white clouser minnow.

More Goodies For The Raffle

More raffle updates.  I have been notified that Patagonia is donating a combo set of wadders and wadding boots. The wadders and boot pictured below are just an example of the patagonia products.  The new wadders and boots will not be available to the shops until January. The winner of this prize will be measured at Marriott's for a sizing that will then be sent to Patagonia.  Also Denis Harper of Harper Custom Rod sent over some pictures of the custome rod for the raffle as well.  The raffle is shaping up nicely with more suprises to come.
